Adriana and Jovo’s wedding was a celebration of love, tradition, and family, blending classic Serbian customs with modern elegance. As a wedding photographer, capturing their special day was an incredible experience, filled with laughter, emotional moments, and lively cultural traditions. One of the most unique and exciting parts of their wedding was the traditional buying of the bride ceremony, a custom that added a fun and meaningful touch to the day.
A Love Story Rooted in Tradition
Adriana and Jovo’s love story is one of deep connection and shared values. Their wedding reflected this beautifully, incorporating Serbian wedding traditions that have been passed down for generations. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they celebrated their union in a way that honored their heritage while embracing their own personal style.
The Traditional Buying of the Bride Ceremony
One of the highlights of Adriana and Jovo’s wedding was the buying of the bride (known as kupovina mlade), a cherished Serbian wedding tradition. This lively and entertaining custom took place before the ceremony at Adriana’s family home.
Jovo, accompanied by his groomsmen, arrived at Adriana’s home, ready to “purchase” his bride. The bridesmaids and family members playfully blocked the entrance, demanding a ransom in the form of money, gifts, or even playful challenges. Jovo and his best man (known as the kum) negotiated, offering humorous bribes and proving his love for Adriana through fun tasks and heartfelt gestures.
The energy in the room was filled with laughter and joy as Jovo fought for his bride. After a few negotiations and a final grand gesture, he was finally granted permission to see Adriana for the first time on their wedding day—a truly emotional and unforgettable moment.
A Stunning Ceremony and Reception
Following the exciting morning tradition, Adriana and Jovo exchanged vows in a beautiful Serbian Orthodox ceremony. The church was filled with love as they followed time-honored rituals, including the crowning ceremony, symbolizing their union as king and queen of their new household.
After the heartfelt ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests made their way to a breathtaking reception venue, where the real celebration began. The night was filled with traditional Serbian music, lively dancing, and delicious Balkan cuisine. The sounds of the kolo, a traditional Serbian dance, filled the room as guests of all ages joined in the celebration.
